SKID ROW ROMANCE Book 4
June 22, 2018
Tourists were on the street this morning, curious strangers who just wanted a peek at Skid Row.
The others were the people who lived down here, the ones Layla had come to know in the six weeks since she’d first stepped off the bus and decided this corner, Main and Hastings, was where she’d tell her poetry to whoever needed it.
Layla set up her easel, propped up her sign—POEMS, $2.00—and looked over to see if Mike was sitting in his usual spot, at the mouth of the alley by the dumpster.
He was. He waved.
She waved back. It was good, having a friend.
But the day is about to bring calamity to Layla and Mike.
Danger brings the recognition that perhaps they’ve moved beyond friendship. But can love survive betrayal?
